9 Days Short

Well about a year ago I quit My job and said I never wanted to work for the man again ... or at least not for a year. Well as it turns out, I am not only going back to work part time, but 9 days short of a full year off.

Looking at the bright side, who else do I know that took a year off in the middle of His life? No one! It's been great, and I wish I could convince the rest of the family to follow My retarded ways of cutting off the power and water supply to the house and just living off the land. Getting water from a well, eating food from the garden, getting heat from a wood stove, and getting light from lanterns. But, as fate would have it, I live with other rational people who insist on using today's technology to make an easy, convenient life for us .. and PAYING for it I might add.

And looking at the negative side of it, I'm really disappointed in Myself. I had such high hopes of doing cool things and really changing the way we live. I let a few small 'let downs' get a grip on Me and kept Me from pursuing My goals. When My goals of selling certain items to get some capital to use for My projects fell through, I became really chicken about digging into savings to make it happen. Now that a year has gone by, I kinda wish I would have taken the plunge, after all .. you only go around once.

I guess I did do some stuff that I might not have had time for if I was working 50 hours a week. I put in a large garden and tended to that all summer, and considering what a crappy summer we had, I'm fairly happy with the amount of food we got out of it. I plan on keeping it going next year again. I also took the family on a vacation which was the highlight of the kid's year. Speaking of kids, I spent more time with them this year than I probably have rest of their whole lives, and that right there makes it worth it alone. And I installed a woodstove in our living room which I'm excited to see the difference in heating bills from last year.

So ..... I may not have the roof plastered with solar panels, nor do I have a field of wind towers built, but I guess having a year off to get some other stuff done, plus plenty of relaxing time was well worth it. Not to mention becoming the little "Hero Daddy" again that I once was to My kids, but kinda lost it with the long and odd hour jobs that I've had. I am once again the 'cool' person to play with in the house.

So, I guess I'm doing the next best thing. Although I am working, it's only part time, and it's about as menial a job you can get next to flipping burgers or pushing grocery carts. I accept NO responsibility at My job, other than showing up, doing My part, and going home. I don't care if other people quit, don't show up, stuff is late, stuff is early, don't got enough stuff, or got too much stuff. Not My problem. I ain't climbing no corporate ladder, or advancing to another position, or going to salary, or moving to management. I AM at the bottom of the ladder, and that's where I'm gonna stay! Money ain't everything, and hanging at home on the farm is MY full time job.

So as of tomorrow at 8:00 AM, I will become, in the most modest sense, a wage earner again. I'm sorry.

New Years Resolution (the final week)

Week 4, the last week of updating. Officially 2 more days in the month left but I think if I made it this far, I can make it 2 more days.

Blood Pressure: 127/73 (down from 138/82 when I started a month ago)

Blood Sugar: 96 (about the same as when I started a month ago)

Weight: - 19 pounds since I started

General Demeanor: Great! I can really tell a difference. Not to mention, no heartburn, no headaches, and all the daily crap I used to get.

----------------------------------------------------

Well now that the first month is done, I can honestly say I'm fairly pleased at the results. Eating natural is great. I would have a hard time arguing that it isn't a good thing for the body. I'm a little disappointed that the results weren't a little more dramatic. I went from Mountain Dew, Mac & Cheese, and cookies ... to rice, oatmeal, and water. I expected a little more 'shock' on the body than just sitting on the toilet twice as much as usual. Actually, the day I ate a whole pot of 15 bean stew ... I was fairly shocked, but I won't get into that. My blood pressure and weight drop were a big motivation, I'm definitely please with those results. The blood sugar, on the other hand, was a little disappointing. I guess eating lots of fruit, while healthy, still affects the blood sugar a lot. I still plan on eating this way, maybe just a little less strict. I have found that if you set the rules so high it's almost impossible to keep, then you will indeed fail. Which is what I've done in the past. I know I could keep up the pace of 100% natural foods if I was alone, but the temptation of 3 other people eating 'normal' food around you everyday takes it's toll, and once in a great while I cave in. The important thing is to get back on the horse and don't quit altogether from one failure. If I quit after one failure all the time, I would have never had our second child. THAT'S A JOKE!!!! SETTLE DOWN ......... just a joke!!

As for eating meat, and eggs, and dairy ... I'm just not convinced. I just don't think our bodies are set up to eat that stuff, so I'll do my best to avoid it. I know that when I quit eating it, I felt a lot better. And NO, it's not for PETA, I'm just trying to figure out what we (the human body) is designed to eat. Rest assured that one day I will have a 20 oz. steak on my plate, but overall I'm going to cut it out of the daily diet. And that goes for eggs, chicken, milk, and all that stuff. I'm almost shedding a tear while I'm typing this ....... no meat!!!

Operation tree is all but in the books. There is a stump left out there, but that's it (see pictures). I'll get to the last bit in the next week or so. It was fun, it was a lot of work, but I'm glad I did it. It's challenging to have to do a normal job while taking away all the tools that make it easy. It also held entertainment value to Me, and as you know, I kind find life pretty boring just doing the everyday ho-hum crap. The last picture is pretty much the last third of the tree, all the rest is cut up and buried under the snow.

Operation not leave the property was great. I really learned a lot about what a person NEEDS .. and what a person wants. Not once was there something I needed! I guess it was just a personal experience to show just how spoiled all of us really are. Easily bored, and constantly wanting to be entertained. I encourage other people to shut yourself out for awhile if at all possible. You might be surprised at just what simple thing you find entertaining ... let's say a tree for example!

I'm still not shaving or cutting my hair until I lose 50 lbs. That will become easier and easier as the weather warms up. The warmer the weather gets, the more MY JOB begins. I have so much stuff I want to do it's amazing. I have an empire to build remember??? If I can't lose weight building an empire, then I've truly failed at life.

As for becoming self sufficient, growing a ton of my own food, getting some alternative energy going, building a corn maze ... OF COURSE!!! I'm all over it!!! What?? Do you think I quit my job to sit on the couch for the rest of my years??? No way! Let's melt some snow and get down to business!!! I got soil to turn, seeds to plant, towers to erect, batteries to charge, water to pump, irrigation ditches to dig!!! I'm a man on a mission!!! 4 feet of standing snow is not helping matters much!

Bottom line ...... it's common sense. That's what it really boils down to. If you eat crap and watch TV all day, your gonna feel like crap. Most of todays foods are just that ... crap! Stay away from the pre-made junk, do some real cooking, get out and take on some projects to keep active, and get out in the damn sun! I don't care how cold out it is. If the sun is shining, get your butt out there for awhile and bask in it. It has amazing affects on your personal demeanor. And please stop listening to all the commercials about how to change every facet in your life by taking another pill, it's all bull!! Just about all the bogus syndromes you hear about on the TV can be cured by eating right, getting off your butt, and getting some sunshine. I don't care if it's moving a snowbank from one side of your driveway to the other ...... GO DO IT!!

No, I'm not becoming Richard Simmons, and NO, I'm not hugging any trees, and NO, I'm not going to 'Save the Whales' this summer (my mother in law is doing just fine). I'm just sick and tired of us as Americans have become so frickin' spoiled and lazy. And of course, the solution is to buy a $100.00 molded piece of plastic for exercise (on the credit card), or take a pill for the rest of your life. Stupidity at it's best .. and you can bet there will always be someone willing to make a buck off it.

Oh yeah, one last thing. First thing when you wake up, don't reach for the coffee. Have a HUGE glass of water, then have your coffee. Actually before every meal, drink a massive amount of water, I think you'll be surprised at the change. OK, now I'll quit, since I AM starting to sound like Richard Simmons.

So that's it for the weekly updating on my personal pathetic little life. This way I can concentrate on more important matters at hand ..... HUMAN STUPIDITY!!!!! See ya tomorrow!

New Years Resolutions (Week 3)

Yup, another week in the books for the dramatic change of life. Let's see the results.

Blood Pressure : 129/76 (About the same as last week)

Blood Sugar : 121 (Pissing me off!! Might as well start drinking Mountain Dew again!!!)

Weight : -16 pounds (only a couple pounds this week, oh well, it's better than gaining)

General Demeanor : very good! I mean .... I'm 38 and retired, how bad can it be ???

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well there you have it. All I have to say is ...........

I HAVE SINNED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes it's true!! I have fallen from grace and sinned Oh Lord! Please forgive me! One day I just felt like having some Captain Morgan while cutting some tree branches and by God, I mixed it with a Diet Coke!!! WHY?? Because Captain Morgan is not good straight! Then to top it off, I went inside and ate 2 pieces of my Wife's homemade pizza!

THERE .... YOU HAPPY NOW!!! You wanna break me down??? You wanna see a grown man cry??? Well you did just that!!!!!!!

Actually, it would be a lot easier to lie and just say I'm still not eating 'unnatural' foods, so give Me some credit. Also, I am right back to eating 'All Natural' again, just had that one screw up. If you knew Me, you would realize how impressive that is since normally once I screw up ... I say F it, and quit altogether. This time I got right back on the wagon, which is strange for Me indeed.

________________________________________________

Operation tree has resumed again. I swear there must be 4-5 feet of snow between Me and the ground when I'm hauling logs back, but oh well, more exercise! I have completed cutting all the branches and am left with just about 5 feet of stump. However, if you've ever cut a stump with a bow saw you will know that I am hardly done cutting this tree. I have some massive cuts to do yet. I think cutting up the entire rest of the tree was easier than trying to cut up the main trunk.

Operation not leaving the farm is sadly going to come to a close next Tuesday as I have to take my Daughter into town for preschool. But I did make it a total of 30 days without leaving my property!! 30 days with no social contact .. just me and the farm. Well I did have 1 friend and 1 brother show up during that time, but I couldn't really help that other than shooting them with a shotgun as they came up the driveway which didn't seem like a good idea at the time.

Other than that, life is good. I may have to break down and start using butter again. I can't stand it anymore. I'd rather do a self castration than not live with butter! Eating food without butter is like having sex with a sheep .. it just makes no sense!! Yeah, I know, butter IS pretty damn natural .. but I'm a stubborn prick! I think to compensate for giving in to this temptation, I will be required to make my own butter from scratch with some cream and salt. I'll let you know how that project goes when the day comes.

P.S. - Sorry about the big type, the damn thing won't change back to normal!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Todays RBV:
Ecclesiastes 1:7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.

Well whad-da-ya-know, the Bible got something right! That Jesus does know His water !!

New Years Resolutions (Week 2)

It's been 2 weeks since the dramatic change of lifestyle has begun, let's see if there's any improvement.

Blood Pressure : 130/75 (The lowest yet)

Blood Sugar : 104

Weight : - 13 pounds!! YEAH!

General Demeanor: Better. I can honestly say that I feel better than I used to on a daily basis. I have more energy, and have noticed a general change for the better overall.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So now I'm starting to see the changes I was looking for. I remember almost a year ago going to get a DOT physical and my blood pressure was to high to pass me. I had to sit in the office for 1/2 hour and relax just to get it to come down barely enough to let me get my license. I'm surprised at the weight too, that's about 7 pounds a week. I'm sure that will slow down as the body starts adjusting more but I'll still take it. Still have 37 more pounds to go before I can shave or get a haircut. As long as it happens before it starts getting warm out I'll be happy, then again, I'll probably enjoy looking like Grizzly Adams and keep it from now on.

I still miss butter more than I can tell you, but things like pop, milk, sugary crap ... I don't miss at all. I guess once you get them out of your system, the cravings go away. I've replaced just about all of my liquid needs with plain old water.

"Operation Tree" is at a stand still. We had 11 inches of snow one day followed by 7 more another so my 'free' exercise has gone from chopping lumber to moving snow. All in all I'm still getting a daily workout as I spend around 2 hours or more per day moving snow.

"Operation not leave the property" is going incredibly great. I have not had ANY outside personal contact with the rest of the world in 18 days!!!!!!!! Yeah, the last few days in December I didn't go into town either. I do have a snag coming up as on the 27th I have to take my daughter to town for Her first day of preschool. Lucky for me this will be 30 days of not leaving the property, so I will have surpassed that goal ....... just barely!! The sad thing is I bet I could continue NOT going to town for a lot longer than that, but family first.

So there you have it .. week 2 in the books. Hopefully I can get out during week 3 and start hacking away at the tree again, but since my tractor has turned into nothing more than a 2000 lbs frozen brick that won't start, I might be preoccupied with that for a bit. Oh well, I've always wanted to learn about the intricate engine pieces of a 60 year old tractor!!

New Years Resolutions (Week One)

Well it's been 1 week since my dramatic transformation of life and let's see how it's going.

Blood Pressure : 133/76

Blood Sugar : 105 <--- This pisses me off .. higher than last week!!

Weight : No idea, the only scale I have is a piece-O-crap that varies 40 lbs each time you step on it, and since I'm not allowed to leave my property till February to use a good scale, we won't know till then.

General Demeanor: Good. It's only been a week, but I thought I'd feel better than I do. I have not noticed any dramatic changes in the past week. Just a lot more sore muscles than usual due to hauling a damn tree through 3 feet of snow 100lbs at a time.

Here are some things that I can tell you about week one:

- My beard is a little longer - I REALLY miss butter!! No butter sucks, and I can't use 'Butter Buds' powder because it's NOT natural. SUCKS! Have you ever made hash browns without oil or butter? THEY SUCK!

- I made a 15 bean stew one morning and ate it all day long on and off. The next day I set a new record in the bathroom for a one time sitting, I won't go into details but I don't need an enema.

- I only shower 2 or 3 times a week now. I'm not sure why, but it sure has cut down on the sex life. On the other hand, I'm saving water in showers and cleaning clothes all the time. So it's a kinda even trade off overall.

- I pee outside a lot, I'm not sure what this means either. I'm starting to wonder why we have indoor toilets however so I'll let you interpret that as you see fit.

- "Operation tree" is coming along good, it's a workout that's for sure. Hauling the logs through 100 yard of snow is an extreme challenge. You can see the progress on the pictures below.

- I put together this salad dressing of vinegar, dijon mustard, honey, olive oil, and pepper. It ROCKS .. I like it better than most store bought ones.

- I'm starting to like oatmeal a bit more, it took awhile from my first meal as it reminded me of dog barf.

- Captain Morgan is not that good straight out of the bottle. I only tried it once. I don't miss pop, but I do wish I could have it for these times.

- I SUCK at making rice. It's pasty, or taste kinda like flour, or hard, or mushy, or something. Every time! Don't get me wrong .. I love rice, but I just haven't figured out how to make this raw stuff I bought yet. This AIN'T your Momma's minute rice, that's for sure.

- "Operation not leave the property" is going GREAT!! I love it! Everyday I'm just confined to MY little world of 15 acres to do what I want, when I want, how I want. I only wish life could be this good all the time as I watch tons of cars zoom by during the day on their quest to do whatever crap they seem to find important to do. NOT ME ... my vehicle will just continue to do what it seems happy doing right now ... collecting snow!

- And finally, my 'All Natural' way of living and eating has NOT shocked my brain into thinking that getting a job and going back to work is a good idea. In fact, I think it's dumber than EVER! This is awesome folks ... I'm on vacation every single day. Right now I spend my days getting wood for next winter for heat and reading up on other things I'll need to know. It's a hell-of-a-long way from self sufficiency, but I'll get this all figured out before too long, then I'll just sit back watch the world go by in my own little world 'till the cows come home (uhmmmm, assuming I figure out how to raise them that is!)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Todays RBV: Genesis 4:8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

Sooooo once upon a time there was God who had this ultimate master plan to create people. He created 2 people, who in turn, had 2 kids. Then one day one kid killed the other kid, killing off 25% of the population. Now if I was God, and this was my master plan, and this was the result after just 4 people, I think I would have just scratched this idea and started over.

Happy New Year

RISE AND SHINE!!! It's the first day of 2009! You know what that means!?! For YOU, probably not much ... for ME, everything!!!!!!

Here is the health readings for myself before I start eating 'all natural' food and making significant changes in other parts of my life.

Blood pressure: 138/82

Blood sugar: 98

Weight Loss: 0 (of course)

General Demeanor: Normal (at least, what I think normal is. However, most people think of me as delusional and crazy)

So today I start setting the example of how people should live. I'm changing my diet, I'm researching on how to successfully grow and store my own food. I'm going to research how to put the sun to use to charge batteries for free power. I'm going to study up on home built windmills for more free power. I need to learn A LOT about batteries, from how to properly charge them, how to maintain them, how to wire them in series or parallel. I need to figure out how to get 1000's of gallons of free water off my quonset roof to several hundred feet away to my garden. I need to figure out how to raise chickens so this spring I can start my production of free eggs and eventually free chicken (if I choose to that is). The list is endless of crap I gotta do! Whoever said retirement is relaxing is full of crap man!!

Well I gotta go, it took God 7 days to make the world. I'll need at LEAST that long to change it back to normal!!

Stay tuned tomorrow for some interesting news on something many of you yuppies out there spend a fortune on every January, and continue to pay each month for it after that, but I'll be doing for FREE!

Todays RBV: 2 Samuel 4:7 For when they came into the house, he lay on his bed in his bedchamber, and they smote him, and slew him, and beheaded him, and took his head, and gat them away through the plain all night. 4:8 And they brought the head of Ishbosheth unto David to Hebron

I think this is how the term "Getting head" started. Of course over the centuries the meaning has changed a bit.

New Years Resolutions

Well here it is! The biggest, and most important resolutions in a man's life. This is 'DO OR DIE' time!! The point in life where a change can occur and a person can live a happy, personally successful life, and die knowing that He made the right decisions in living His life. OR - Die while still being alive by going back to work for 'the man' and when the real death comes, all He can say is that He worked for someone else His whole life and successfully made OTHER people's lives happy. Basically, most everything we do today, as we know it, is stupid!! From working, to eating, to how we raise our family, to religion, to our very definition of what is important to us.

So that being said, here is MY list of New Years Resolutions for 2009 and beyond.
1. I will only eat natural foods for as long as I possibly can. Hopefully forever!

2. I will not shave my beard until I lose 50 pounds. Note: I have not shaved since November 29th, so I already am starting to look like Grizzly Adams.

3. In ADDITION to not shaving my beard, I'm going to also throw in NOT cutting my hair until I lose 50 pounds. Yeah ... my wife will have me sleeping outside real soon.

4. I will NOT leave my farmstead for at least 30 days. I will not be allowed to leave and go to town for any reason. Anything I might need the wife will have to get when She goes in. I think one month of just Me, a few projects, and my land will do a person a lot of good. I'd like to extend this out way past 30 days, but with the wife going to work, and one kid having preschool in February sometime, I must live up to my family obligations too.

5. Along the lines of the last resolution, I will not bring the rest of my family into my personal ventures. They will live just like they always have, doing their normal activities, school, friends, get-togethers and such. Life will continue just as normal as it always has for them ... well as normal as living with a guy like me can be that is.

6. I WILL grow a corn maze and pumpkin patch and have it open to the public to make money. This should be interesting since I have NO equipment as of yet and the only thing I know about planting corn is you go to Walmart, buy a packet of seeds ... etc.

7. I shall NOT make more money than the poverty level that the government has set for a family of 4. That is $21,200. This way I don't pay any taxes to a worthless, corrupt, greedy system that definitely needs to collapse and start over. I'LL BE DOING MY PART TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN !!!! (NO .. my family will not suffer because of the lower income .. I got it covered, trust Me)

8. I WILL NOT be going back to work for THE MAN!! Well at least for one year! If, after one year, everything I've planned and dreamed up has come to a colossal failure and I see that I was totally wrong, and that the only way to make it in life is to get a typical job and punch a time clock for a living .... THEN I will go back and do just that. But I wouldn't hold your breath on this one, because I'm pretty sure I'm right to think that 'people' don't HAVE to live this way.

9. I won't start believing in religion until RELIGION comes to ME!!! I figure I wasted enough of My life trying to find some magical, mystical figure in the sky .. He/She knows that I'm here so if I'm loved enough by this heavenly being out there, it can come find me and prove that it's real.

10. Finally, I will continue to be as stubborn as I am and question everything in life that we do. I feel that society as a whole is getting dumber, and people are getting lazier, and more numb to what 'living' really is, and that is why I'm doing what I'm doing.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then there is the list of things that are not really resolutions, but just changes that I think are interesting enough to point out.

1. I have moved the TV and DVD player and Playstation OUT of the bedroom and replaced the open space with books. Yup .. I'm giving up watching movies and playing video games and replacing them with reading. I THINK I still remember how to read ... I did it in high school once or twice.

2. I've replaced the light in my room with oil lamps. I have no idea what this means but I'm doing it anyway.

3. I would like to become self-sufficient over time. Now this is something I cannot do in one day, or maybe not even in one year, but I really want to get there. That is, supplying most of my own food, my own water, my own power and such. I will be doing this in stages as I get comfortable with the ideas and plans that I have.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So there you have it, my goals for 2009. I'm sure all you yuppies out there will set your own personal goals for yourselves too. Like giving up chocolate, or mocha frappacinoes, or getting that platinum credit card. Yeah .. have fun, at the end of the year you'll still be the same shallow, image toting, hollow person that you are today! WHAT?? Did you think I could let a day go by without bitching about something?? Nice try !!
