Pile Of Crap

We just had a birthday party for our little 6 year old. As the presents were being opened, I could not help My demented mind from going out on a tangent and noticing all the crap that people attain in a lifetime.

Now first and foremost, I'm NOT calling anyone's gift 'crap'. Any and all gifts were very thoughtful and well appriciated, and I thank you for remembering My daughters special day.

NOW ..... that being said, I was watching Her open up gifts and thinking, "How much crap does a person really need?" I mean really, how many stuffed animals, how many dolls, how many books, how many toys, ..... how much shit do WE AS HUMANS really need???"

I couldn't help talking with the older grandparents there about how much crap THEY had when they were kids. We came to the conclusion that everyone gets too much crap! And I'm sure that includes Me too. I just walk into the kid's room and look around at all the useless crap they have. I believe that if I threw out 90% of their stuff, they would not only be just as well off, but also MORE appreciative of the stuff they have.

My Mom tells Me about the days when ONE doll is what She had ... I said ONE!! And I'm sure it was a very special, sacred doll for Her. But not today, now we have to have 10 barbies, and 30 stuffed animals, and Polly Pocket collections, and Bratz, and on and on and on. And that's just the DOLLS!!! Good God .. what the hell has happened to us??

The sad thing is one day when they are in school, I'll go through and find a bunch of this crap and throw it out. And the big surprise is ... they won't even miss it!!!! I think it goes to say that we as humans are one big constant hoarding machine of tangible crap. It may be Barbies, it may be toys, it may be tools, or it may be sports memorabilia. But in the end, it's all useless crap that has NOTHING to do with getting by in our day to day lives. Just more pointless junk that gets us on a short 'high' until we need another fix and head to the store to get our 'hit' of more crap!!

I find that as time goes on, I have this urge that is calling Me more and more often to go through every square inch of My house and just throw anything and everything down to the bare minimum. I'd say I would get rid of over 70% of ALL My belongings and still live My life as normal as anyone of you. And in reality, that's what we do anyway ... we throw away all our crap and get new crap all the time. It's just that we do it in small scales that don't hurt as much. But in the end, we all are one massive garbage heap creating machines, just to fill a little void with some material thing that will just end up in the trash sooner or later.

Yeah .... once again I think it would have been a lot funner to live back in the days before the industrial revolution came about before we started making all this crap. But then again, I'd probably be dead, since people only lived to about 40 years old back then.
