Girl Scouts

And here is yet another thing that we do to our children that is just plain stupid!

We have our kids in dance class, or boy/girls scouts, or band, or gymnastics, THEN we send them out on the streets to peddle some worthless products so they can get prizes! How stupid is this?? Is my kid in your organization to learn something new and fun ... or to peddle your products to raise money for you?? How sick is it to use CHILDREN to make money for your needs?

I know what your thinking. They need to go out and sell stuff to support the cause of the organization to keep it running!! REALLY??? Is that right? So, the obvious conclusion to supporting the girl scouts is to send kids out on the streets begging people to buy some cookies. It's just frickin' stupid! Why ..... WHY .. do you people ALWAYS have to get the kids involved in your stupid crap, when they should be just enjoying the few innocent, fun, years they have.

My child is in girl scouts, and She likes it. She's learning new things, meeting new people, all in all it's a good thing. But now it's come to the part of the year where the 'cookie sales' come out!! Everybody gets a pep talk on going out and selling the most cookies to get a prize or that sacred "COOKIE PATCH"!!! Ohhhhhhh a cookie patch!!! WOW!!!! I'm sorry, but it's just not right to make children go out and earn a living. I think it's about 10 or 15 years to early to impose this on the kids. If you corporate schmucks need more money to support a cause that you believe in, then YOU GO SELL THE DAMN COOKIES!!!

Why don't you just raise the price on joining the girl scouts?? Then you can brag that they don't have to go out and do any selling. I'm so sick of little kids coming to the door begging Me to buy a $4.00 candy bar so they can go to camp, or a $10 can of double chocolate fudge caramel popcorn so they can win a prize. I hate it because how do you say NO??? You can't ... it's an innocent little kid! You can't explain to them how stupid it is that they are out selling stuff on the street at age 7! All you can do is go fumble for your wallet and doll out some cash. Which is EXACTLY why this thing is so stupid!!! You organizations are USING the kids!!! How sick is that??? So the kids are doing something they shouldn't be doing, and the adults are paying for something they don't want ...... hmmmmmmm brilliant plan! Hey, people in Iran use their kids to promote their psycho religious beliefs and stick an AK-47 in their hands for their cause, what's the difference between THAT and going door to door getting money to support your cause??

Do you know how much money actually stays in the troop from the selling of a $3.50 box of cookies? About 50 cents .. yeah, that's it! Other than paying the baker for making the cookies, all the rest of the profits goes right to corporate headquarters and I would be willing to bet is making many executives have a very comfortable living. All at the cost of children need I remind you.

Don't get me wrong .. I'm not a deadbeat. I feel if MY girl is in girl scouts, I should pay OUR share to help keep the organization going. I just think that going out on the streets begging strangers to support something that I have an interest is STUPID! Not to mention, your USING CHILDREN to do it!!

I have a plan for my personal problem with this girl scout cookie dilemma. I'm going to the girl scout office and asking them how much 'profit' do they make on each box of cookies. Then I'm going to ask how many boxes does the average girls sells. Then, I'm going to take the profit of one box, multiplied by the average boxes sold, and write them a check for that amount. Then I'm going to politely ask them to STOP asking My child to go out and be their little prostitutes on the streets. Then I'll comment on what a nice office they have and mention that it was all paid for by the sweat and tears of CHILDREN!!!!

Then, I'll probably be told that I need not have my child in girl scouts any longer since their Daddy is obviously a nutcase. Oh well ... either way, I win. I can always create my own little girl scout camp in the State Of Les. I think I can manage teaching My girl how to say 'please' and 'thank you' and how to set up a tent, and all that stuff. Not only can I do it, but I certainly have the time to do it also. And for all you parents that are offended that I kept My child out of the experience of dealing with money ...... FINE .... I'll let her collect the money from My corn maze this fall!!

I mean just look at Me. I never went to boy scouts and sold anything door to door, and I turned out fine and normal!!! Uhmmmm .... ahhhh .. OK, bad example. But you get my point! It's not a necessary thing for child to do. They will learn about people, counting money, interaction just fine, without whoring your products door to door like some third world child laboring country!
So all you 'non profit' organizations out there, quit sending kids out on the streets to do your dirty work. It's wrong, immoral, and stupid ... and the person who ever thought of this crap should be shot at town square A.S.A.P. Oh yeah, and if YOUR child is out selling crap to support some organization, you need not ring my bell ... stay home and pay for it yourself!! AMEN!

One last thought : I wonder if they ever did a study on the percentage of girl scouts who sold cookies on the street that became prostitutes when they get older? I bet it's pretty high!
