Flagellum

The flagellum. Probably one of the coolest micro organisms that we know about.

What is a flagellum? It's this little self propelled micro bacterium that's present in protein chains and stuff. Who cares what it is. It's how this little thing works that's absolutely amazing.

This little thing has got over 40 moving parts. It's like a little tiny rotary engine spinning at over 100,000 RPM's. And it can stop and reverse in a split second. Try that with a man made motor. This tiny little thing has a rotor, a stator, rods, bearings, and bushings .... oh yeah, and you can fit a million of them on the width of a human hair.

Ahhhhh hell, I can't even begin to describe these cool little things. Go check them out for yourselves .. it well worth it. It just blows Me away that you can go on an endless journey forever out into the universe and never find the end, but then turn around and head into the world of micro organisms, and it's a seemingly endless void of questions heading that way too. And here we are ... somewhere in the middle of one endless ocean of it all, wondering what the hell are we doing here?

Now GO ... SERIOUSLY!!! Go Google 'Flagellum' dammit!
