Building an empire

The United States has over 1000 bases spread out around the world. ONE THOUSAND!

Now think about that for a minute. 1000 'United States' military bases .... that are NOT in the United States!! Does something seem wrong with this picture?

Ask yourself just how many foreign military bases YOU would tolerate being built right here in the good old U.S.A. Would it be a safe bet that if China came over here and built JUST ONE base smack-dab in the middle of the country you'd be highly pissed??? Imagine if they built 10 bases .. or a hundred! Who the hell would tolerate that?? No one!!!!!!

Think of the cost involved in running all those bases. Just feeding all them troops!! We have like 350,000 troops scattered across the globe!! Imagine the price tag of supporting 1/3 of a million military personnel across the globe. I don't know what these numbers are .. but they must be staggering to say the least.

We have:

33,000 troops in Japan - for what?? Quality inspections on Hondas???

57,000 troops in Germany - uhmmmm, the last I heard, WWII is over, the German wall has crumbled, and the Cold war is history too. But the troops remain.

10,000 troops in Italy - No doubt a massive threat against the United States

1,500 troops in Belgium - overseeing chocolate factory terrorism ????

1,500 troops in Bahrain - where the hell is that???

----------------------------

I don't know. Maybe I'm oversimplifying the whole thing, but it just seems stupid. If you look back in history of all the 'big dogs' who went around trying to take over the world, every single one of them got their ass whipped eventually. Why even bother in the first place? Not to mention how the rest of the world feels about our presence in 'their' business. Or might I add the fact that for the first time in history, we are living in the NUCLEAR age where we actually have the capability of wiping out life on the entire planet. I'm pretty sure Alexander the Great didn't quite have the capability of an atomic weapon, unless there is something about horses and swords that I don't understand.

I guess I'm not even allowed to comment on this stuff, because I live in poverty and consequently don't pay taxes. Maybe it's best that I just manage My own little country, "The State Of Les", and let the rest of the world continue with their own stupidity. That's about the only way I find happiness in the first place, not caring what anyone else is doing in the first place.
