Where does sound go?

Have you ever wondered where sound goes?

I mean where the hell does it go to? It doesn't disappear! Why is it when we yell it doesn't just hit our ears and then be on it's way .. then in a few days in circles around the globe and comes back again. Think of all the sounds out there! Every tree rustling, every car driving, every person talking, all the animals making noise .. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, since the beginning of time.

WHERE THE HELL IS ALL THE NOISE AT?? There should be NO such thing as silence, but yet there is. I mean sure the sound waves dissipate, but they don't altogether disappear! I mean sound is energy .. right? And you can't make energy go away. So where is this HUGE vacuum that must exist that sucks up all the noise that ever was?

For example, and opera singer sings a high note and directs it towards a fragile wine glass. After finding the precise pitch that vibrates the glass, it shatters. But where has the noise gone?? The audible tones ... the volume!! Where the hell did it head off to? Or did the audible tones get absorbed into the glass causing it to shatter? If so, how do you get the tone back out of the glass?

Am I suppose to believe that ALL sound heads off miles and miles upwards into outer space in the infinite vacuum that cannot carry audible tones?? I THINK NOT!! Sure some of the noise heads to outer space, but there's no way ALL sound heads upward! I wanna know where all the other noise is dammit!!!

And to top it off, I'm not even sure about this theory of sound can't be heard in a vacuum anyway! I just stuck My head inside our Electrolux and called the dog over .. and I'll be damned if He didn't come-a-running.

Anyway, if anyone has an answer, My life would be that much more complete if I knew. Thank you.

And finally on a different note <--(punny). THIS is what I do when I'm not working, and since I don't work much .. I have a lot of time to ponder these important aspects of life! And with any luck, one day I'll either start figuring shit out, or be put in a mental institution .. either of which sounds fun to Me.
