The good and the bad

Here are two pictures to ponder at. One I find amazingly astounding, the other ... well, I could almost cry.

This is a picture from the hubble telescope. It's a picture of a mere speck of what's all out there. It is mind blowing to say the least. Just the fact that there are enough stars out there that each and every one of the 6.8 billion people on earth could own a few trillion of them ... and there would still be plenty to spare. The universe is absolutely numbing. By the way, all those little dots on the picture are not stars .. they are galaxies!!! Each one probably has millions and billions of stars in it. Each star probably has several planets around it. Each planet has the possibility of life. Let that sink into your brain for awhile.

This picture, on the other hand is a survey. It simply asks, "Did human beings derive from some other animal?" In other words ... evolution. Now if you look real close, you will find the United States .. SECOND FROM THE BOTTOM!!!! That's right ... we beat out Turkey! I find this picture extremely disturbing, if not embarrassing. This great country that forged ahead in the world, and has done so much in the advancement of civilization, and became a superpower in just a short span of time ... has seemed to be in a rut and sinking ever so slowly back to the stone age. Is it any wonder that the rest of the world is starting to pass us by ... leaving us in our cloud of religious dust??
