Gregorian Calendar

So even though I think religion is a bunch of crap, I still try to keep an open mind and view both sides of the story. One thing that always bugged me is why do we have a calendar that is based on B.C. (before Christ), and A.D. (after the death of Christ). I mean, that's a pretty big deal to have the whole world using the same calendar with a Christian base to it. Well that's what today's topic is all about, the reason we use the calendar that we do.

Today, the Gregorian Calendar is used worldwide, but it began as a Roman Catholic calendar to start. Today, many non-Christians still use their own calendar for religious purposes. Such as the Hebrews and the Muslims. So how is it we all use the same calendar today? And why?

This particular calendar started about 325 AD by Romans and was kinda in honor of Julius Ceasar. It wasn't until about 2 centuries later that they threw in the birth of Christ aspect. Even then this calendar didn't really catch on until about the 9th century, when it was used by England and then spread around the world with the European colonization that followed.

Then in 1582, Pope Gregory XIII made a few changes in the calendar to make it more accurate and hence, the Gregorian calendar was the new name. Also about this time, Spain and France adopted it as the official calendar also.

As time went on, the calendar became less known for it's Christian base, and more known for it's accuracy and convenience. More and more countries adopted it as the official calendar as it was the right thing to do for international commerce and trade. Countries like China didn't even accept it until 1911, Russia, not till 1918, and some not as late as 1940!!

Today, the entire world uses the Gregorian calendar for commercial and trade purposes. In fact, the A.D. and B.C. are taken out of a lot of calendars and replaced with C.E. (common era), and B.C.E. (before common era).

There have been several attempts to replace the Gregorian calendar over the years, but each time has failed. Mainly due to the fact that the whole world is using the same thing, why make it difficult. And of course, anyone with a different calendar would do just that, make it difficult to do world commerce and trade. So the biggest and the best won the battle, simple as that, hmmm, kinda like evolution theory!

So, now I have that question answered. Still no proof that the Bible is true, but I'll keep looking on both sides, maybe one day something will finally come up. I have my doubts, but I'll keep searching.

Todays RBV:

Exodus 21:15 And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death.

Leviticus
20:9 For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.

Matthew
15:4 For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.

Now if the Bible says something that's absurd, some people interpret it a different way. What happens when the Bible says the same damn absurd thing 3 times?? Make no mistake about it folks, if your kid smarts off, you HAVE TO KILL them. Not doing so is going AGAINST the law of GOD! Hey .. it's YOUR religion, not mine. I don't have one! AMEN
